To start the year, Twitch announces very sad news for its employees. Like video game publishing and development studios, Twitch fired, and not just a little. In a statementTHE CEO Dan Clancy announces the dismissal of more than 500 employees Twitchor approximately 35% of the firm’s workforce. As a reminder, Twitch notably closed its branch in South Korea last year, where the network infrastructure was too expensive, a total of nearly 1,000 employees lost their jobs in one year.
In his press release, Dan Clancy explains that Twitch had more employees than it could afford and therefore needed to reduce its payroll, recalling in passing that the streaming platform has paid more than a billion dollars to streamers. A restructuring which still leaves half a thousand employees behind.
