Twitch: We say goodbye to host mode… Users are furious!

It’s official, host mode will soon be saying goodbye to the world’s largest streaming platform, Twitch. The system, allowing streamers to send their viewers to another channel at the end of a live, was widely used by content creators. The main purpose being to spotlight other streamers, and to support them through the live.

However, Twitch recently announced the demise of this host system. A news that has triggered the anger of some users of the platform, who made it known on the networks.

Goodbye Host!

From October 3, streamers will no longer have access to the “/host” command. In an FAQ, Twitch revealed the reasons for this sudden disappearance, citing a system that prevents content creators from developing.

“We introduced host/host mode in 2014 to make it easy for streamers to give their viewers another stream to watch while offline. Since its launch, we’ve learned that streamers want to share their viewers with other other streamers to help them grow and we’ve introduced features to help you do just that.

We made the decision to deprecate this feature because the experience it provides to viewers does not match their expectations when coming to Twitch. Viewers want to interact with a streamer when they’re live, and host/host mode prevents that. Preventing viewers from interacting with the streamer they are watching also limits a streamer’s growth potential, as they are unable to make meaningful connections with these new viewers.”

The platform therefore advises streamers to turn to other options if they wish to send strength to one of their colleagues.

  • the shoutout, a new feature on the platform that allows streamers to display a follow button to another channel by entering the command “/shoutout [chaine]”.
  • Raid a Twitch channel at the end of the stream.
  • Utilize the suggestions page of channels in order to place the desired streamers there.

According to Twitch, it is important to distinguish between a raid and a host. The latter certainly allowed the streamer to give strength by broadcasting another content creator, but the viewers remained in the chat of the person hosting the other channel. qualified as “a demonstration tool”so the system will bid farewell in October.

A community at odds

Twitch’s decision has caused many users to react, who expressed their dissatisfaction on the networks. This is the case of streamer CriticalBard, who called the decision a “completely useless”.

What a user named Bri replied in comment : “People have told me they found me because someone else was hosting me when they went to their page. The hosting system IS helpful. ‘hosts and keep breaking them, but they really don’t understand how and why we use it” (Source).

As Twitch says in its press release, other options remain available to streamers if they wish to highlight the content of a particular channel. Despite the upcoming disappearance of the host system, the community present on the platform will continue to stick together, in one way or another !
