To separate from half of the employees of Twitter after its takeover was not enough: external service providers also paid the price.

This weekend, 4,400 people outside the social network now owned by Elon Musk have indeed discovered on the fly that they no longer have a job.

Fall cleaning

After the massive layoffs having led to the door half of the employees of the social network, the company attacked this Sunday with the service providers. This in order to make budget cuts in order to avoid a possible bankruptcy of Twitter.

According to different sources, more than 4,000 people learned the bad news in an unceremonious way. Some contractors discovered this while preparing for work and finding that they had lost access to Twitter’s internal systems.

Others have known it simply by reading reports relating to said budget cuts on the social network. The common denominator of all these job losses is the fact that the external providers have not received any proper warning from the platform.

Jobs and a platform in danger

The 4,400 external service providers thus dismissed without warning mainly worked in marketing, social network maintenance or moderation. A measure that is part of a desire for the new leader of Twitter to limit moderation within it as much as possible.

A manager of the platform reported that one of his contractors had ” suddenly lost his access while making critical changes to our child safety policy “. This sudden separation thus potentially leaves moderation and the very infrastructure of Twitter fallow.

Since the wave of dismissals at the beginning of the month, many external service providers had also found themselves in teams reduced to a trickle, with no one to validate their working hours. It could therefore be that they are never paid for the last two weeks worked.

Between this and the chaos generated by the Twitter Blue paid certification system, the blue bird has certainly “taken out of its cage”, but let loose in a terrible shambles.
