Twitter: data protection investigation in Ireland

(CercleFinance.com) – In Ireland, the Data Protection Commission (DPC) announced on December 23 that it had launched an investigation on Twitter on its own initiative after several international media reported that the personal data of approximately 5.4 million social network users had been disclosed on the Internet.

In this context, the DPC indicates that it has contacted Twitter International Unlimited Company (‘TIC’) regarding this breach of personal data.

After examining the information provided by TIC, the DPC considers that one or more provisions of the GDPR law have been breached and the DPC is conducting an investigation to assess TIC’s liability and whether the company has breached its obligations.
