Yesterday evening, at French time, we learned of the final takeover of Twitter by Elon Musk for the tidy sum of 44 billion dollars. While many critics have been leveled at this takeover, Jack Dorsey, the co-founder and former CEO of Twitter, did not hesitate to give his blessing to the boss of Tesla and Space X.

According to him, this acquisition allows the social network to get out of an impossible situation and to remove control of the platform from the hands of Wall Street.

From public to private

Previously public, because listed on the stock exchange, the Twitter network has become private again with the huge takeover of Elon Musk. An operation welcomed by the former CEO of the platform, Jack Dorsey, who published a series of tweets to give his blessing to the new owner of the company. According to him, this acquisition is a good first step. The company belonged to Wall Street and the economic model based on advertising, and becoming private again will allow, according to him, to get out of it and regain control.

In principle, I believe that no one should own or run Twitter. [Le réseau] wants to be a public good at a protocol level, not a business. However, to solve the problem of Twitter as a company, Elon is the only solution I trust “explains Jack Dorsey in his tweets.

By wanting to review the moderation rules of the platform as well as its philosophy, Elon Musk managed to convince the former leader of the company of the merits of his mission. ” Elon’s goal in creating a platform of “maximum reliability and very broadly inclusive” is the right one. This is also the goal of Parag [l’actuel P.-D.G. de Twitter, ndlr] and that’s why I chose it. Thanks to both of them for getting the company out of an impossible situation. This is the right way…I believe it with all my heartr”.
