Twitter harassment: Crazy Rich Asians actress reveals she attempted suicide


Comedian Constance Wu revealed in a lengthy Twitter post that she attempted to end her life in 2019 after receiving a wave of negative comments.

American actress Constance Wu, known for her role in Crazy Rich Asians and Welcome to the Huangs, signed her big comeback on social networks last Wednesday after more than three years of absence.

In a long statement posted on Twitter, she revealed that she had attempted suicide following a wave of negative comments about her.

In 2019, Constance Wu faced a torrent of criticism after posting a tweet in which she expressed her dissatisfaction with the renewal for a sixth season of the series Fresh Off The Boat (Bienvenue chez les Huang in French) in which she played one of the main roles.

Internet users then deplored his lack of recognition towards this program which had allowed him to make a name for himself. “I felt bad“, she thus explained in her long post. “I started to feel like I didn’t even deserve to live anymore, that I was a disgrace to Asians and they would be better off without me“.

Looking back, it’s crazy to think that a few private messages convinced me to end my own life, but that’s what happened. Luckily a friend found me and took me straight to the ER”. After this suicide attempt, the actress made the decision to put her career on hold in order to focus on “his mental health”.

Currently starring in the Prime Video series The Terminal List alongside Chris Pratt, Constance Wu has decided to share her story in a book titled making a scene in order to open the debate on mental health within the Asian community of the United States.

Asian Americans don’t talk enough about mental health issues” she added, hoping that her story can help others in a similar situation.
