In the more or less near future, Twitter should deploy the long-awaited “Edit” function.

A button that will allow you to modify a tweet, but which will obviously be subject to various conditions.

The “Edit” function on Twitter is becoming clearer

At the beginning of April, to everyone’s surprise, Twitter indicated that it was working on an “Edit” button. So many people believed in an April Fool’s joke, it seems that the social network is really working in this direction and that an option to modify our tweets will soon be available. Obviously, the latter will be subject to various conditions, to avoid abuse as much as possible.

For example, editing a tweet will create a new, updated post with a new unique ID. In this way, it will be possible for Twitter to keep the content of the original publication, in order to create a history of modifications, possibly consultable by other users. In addition, it seems that Twitter is putting in place a time limit for editing its posts.

Thus, the “Edit Tweet” function could be available for only 60 minutes after the publication of the tweet in question. This will allow the author to correct a mistake noticed a posteriori, while avoiding as much as possible completely reshaping the essence of a tweet that has gone viral a few days after its initial publication. It remains to be seen now when (and how) this new feature will be deployed on Twitter.
