What (still) is happening at Twitter? Many third-party clients are down.

For a few hours, alternative applications such as Twitterific or Tweetbot have been out of service.

What’s going on at Twitter?

It has been a few months now that the Twitter network continues to undergo many upheavals, at the initiative of its new boss Elon Musk. In addition to a massive wave of layoffs, the social network has also implemented new features (with Twitter Blue in particular and new certifications), not to mention new options to come, including a “Coins” option to allow users to reward their favorite tweets.

But since last night, Twitter is causing a new problem, this time related to third-party clients. Indeed, in addition to the classic web platform, Twitter can be used via third-party applications that work through an API and offer advanced features. And it is this same API that would currently be the problem.

Third party customers victims of a bug or…?

Platforms like Twitterrific or Tweetbot therefore encounter connection problems with Twitter. At present, it is impossible to know what is the origin of this concern, except that it is the connection API made available by Twitter which refuses the connection.

According to some, it could be a new decision made by Elon Musk and his teams. Indeed, the new CEO of Twitter had already expressed the fact that alternative applications were not necessarily welcome, especially with regard to advertising revenue.

For the moment, the Twitterrific and Tweetbot applications have still not been put back into service, and we will probably have to wait a few more hours to find out the exact origin of this bug… if it really is one.
