Elon Musk wants to “soon” release 1.5 billion inactive accounts on Twitter.

A good thing for some, when others fear seeing the account (and certain memories) of a sadly deceased relative disappear forever…

Twitter will release 1.5 billion aliases

While actively preparing for the return of the Twitter Blue formula, Elon Musk took the time to announce yet another novelty to come for his social network. The new boss of Twitter has indeed promised to release “ soon » more than 1.5 billion aliases, by deleting inactive accounts.

While Twitter has around 250 million daily users, the platform is also home to six times as many accounts that have no tweets under their belt or haven’t logged into the platform for a long time. “Freeing” inactive accounts is a recurring request from many users wishing to recover a particular alias for personal or professional purposes.

On Twitter, Elon Musk also took care to add: “ These are obvious account deletions, with no tweets or logins in years. “A decision already challenged by many subscribers who recall that certain inactive accounts can have immense historical or sentimental value, starting with those belonging to deceased people.

In 2019, regarding this same problem of inactive accounts, Twitter confirmed that it did not want to delete any account, just before developing a new tool to commemorate the accounts of missing people. So the suspense remains…
