On June 3, 2024, TechCrunch reported on changes to the Twitter/X rules since last weekend. The most notable concerns the treatment of adult content. Until now tolerated, these have now taken their place in the platform’s regulations.
The media thus underlines that “users can now post consensually produced NSFW content”. To be accepted on Twitter/X, this adult content must meet one requirement: be labeled as such (sensitive content). We learn in passing that these cannot appear on a profile image or a banner.
On a dedicated page, Twitter/X explains that “sexual expression, visual or written, can be a legitimate form of artistic expression”, or even that the social network believes “in the autonomy of adults to engage and create content that reflects their own beliefs, desires and experiences, including those related to sexuality”.
The social network adds in passing that these new rules also apply to photographic, animated or AI-generated content, “such as cartoons, hentai or anime”.
Finally, TechCrunch notes that “X’s violent content rules also have similar guidelines, but X maintains that content must not be excessively gory or depict sexual violence”.
