Two actors from a Netflix series killed in a car accident in Mexico


Production company Redrum is suspending filming pending an investigation into the accident, which took place last Thursday.

Two actors from the Netflix series, The Chosen Onewere killed and six others were injured in a car accident occurred on June 16 on the Mexican peninsula of Baja California Sur, reports the wall street journal.

Players Raymundo Garduño Cruz and Juan Francisco Gonzalez Aguilar died Thursday in the crash, Netflix announced over the weekend. Two other cast members and four crew members were also injured but are in stable condition.

Redrum, the production company behind The Chosen One, temporarily halted filming of the series. Redrum did not immediately respond to WSJ requests for comment. And Netflix said the investigation into the accident is ongoing.

An off-set accident

The series was filming in Baja California Sur (called Baja California Sur in French) in the Santa Rosalia region. The accident happened while the team was in transit in a van from Santa Rosalia to Mexico City airport, according to Netflix.

The Chosen One is an adaptation of the comics American Jesus by Mark Millar and Peter Gross and is about a 12-year-old boy who learns that he is the reincarnation of Jesus Christ, destined to save mankind.

The series is the latest project born from the Millarworld comics company. Netflix acquired Millarworld in late 2017. Their first released TV project is Jupiter’s Legacy, in spring 2021.
