Victim of an illness, this Thursday, May 12, in a TGV between Paris and Brest, a baby of 1 month and a half was rescued by a pediatrician and a student nurse.

This Thursday, May 12, 2022, at the start of the afternoon, a pediatrician and a student nurse, traveling in a TGV connecting Paris to Brest, saved the life of a sick infant. Living in Paris, the mother of the child was going to Brest for a professional health check, when she noticed that her little girl, aged only 1 month and a half, was no longer reacting. Her complexion was very pale, she was hypotonic and had all the symptoms of infant malaise.

Disarmed in the face of this emergency, the SNCF staff, present in the train, then launched an announcement to find out if there was a doctor or a competent person among the passengers, to help the infant. Upon hearing the message, Aurélie, a childcare assistant, currently a third-year nursing student at the IFSI of the Red Cross in Brest, immediately got up from her seat, followed closely by a pediatrician.

An emergency

The two professionals then did their best to rescue the young baby.
“We stripped him naked and then rubbed his limbs. His legs turned out to be very stiff. Intestinal obstruction was suspected. We thought about doing an infusion, but there was no IV bag on the train. There were also no glucometers in the medicine cabinets.”detailed Aurélie.

Caregivers also asked the mum about her child’s health history. They learned that the little girl had had loose stools for four days, but also that she had fallen off the couch the day before.
“The pediatrician checked that his pupils were reactive. We put her on the chest to allow her to drink a little and avoid dehydrationshe added.

Suitable equipment is required

Today little Janina, of his first name, is doing wonderfully. This Sunday, May 15, Aurélie received reassuring news and thanks from her mother.
“Saturday, they returned to Paris after two days of hospitalization. The little girl underwent neurological examinations and a blood test, her mother is relieved.she explained.

Fortunately, this misadventure ends well for the infant and his mother. For her part, Aurélie does not want to draw any glory from this intervention, claiming that she has only done her duty.
“If I wanted to talk about it, it was for encourage the SNCF to provide first aid kits suitable for baby care.”insisted the student.
