Two cases in Reutte – Thousands of euros in damage from online fraudsters

The police in Tyrol are investigating two cases of cybercrime in Reutte that happened last Sunday. The victims were cheated out of large amounts.

On Sunday, an amount of 10 euros was booked into the account of an 18-year-old Austrian. Immediately afterwards, the 18-year-old received a call and an online message that this amount had been transferred to the wrong account by mistake. The caller requested express transfer of the amount to a nominated account. The 18-year-old did this. The next day he found that a high four-digit euro amount had been debited from his account. Woman gave account details The police in Reutte are also investigating another case of cybercrime: an unknown perpetrator is suspected of using the credit card of a 55-year-old Austrian woman for several to have made illegal transfers between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Sunday. The victim previously disclosed their credit card details in a push message from an online platform in connection with a classified ad. The transfers resulted in damage in the mid four-digit euro range.
