The Ada Lovelace and RDNA 3 duel on the graphics cards mid-range should finally take place. Finally, if the partners want it.

This is a very funny launch looming for the Radeon RX 7700XT and RX 7800XT from AMD. On the one hand, the American firm is limited to a single reference card, and on the other, its partners are not rushing.

RDNA 3 finally on the mid-range

Officialized by AMD on August 25 at Gamescom 2023 in Cologne, the Radeon RX 7700XT and RX 7800XT cards represent the mid-range of the RDNA 3 generation… and they will be long overdue!

Indeed, remember that the Radeon RX 7900XT and RX 7900XTX, spearhead of the RDNA 3 range, have been available since last December, and that for its part, NVIDIA quickly chained the RTX 4090, RTX 4080, RTX 4070 Ti and RTX 4070 to slide from high-end to mid-range.

However, the announcement of the Radeon RX 7700XT and RX 7800XT is not an end in itself, and the production and marketing of the cards seem to pose other problems.

The RX 7800XT MbA shunned?

First, and while AMD hadn’t been very talkative on the subject, we were surprised to learn that the American firm wouldn’t be distributing Radeon RX 7700XTs in its own name. Only the RX 7800XT will therefore have the right to its MbA version (for Made by AMD).

For the Radeon RX 7700XT, AMD relies on its partners, and this is where the thing would become almost comical. While these partners have free rein for the 7700XT, they seem to be “sulking” the 7800XT, its big sister. Well, at least when it comes to the reference design.

AMD has clearly indicated that this 7800XT MbA will be available on its official website and the store attached to it. As a general rule, this reference card can be taken over by AMD’s partners, and this is precisely what Sapphire is preparing to do… but it is quite alone.

Sapphire should offer a very complete line up around the 7800XT with this MbA model and, in addition, three well-known variants. The Nitro+ will be the most powerful and complete, the Pure will stand out with its white version, and the Pulse will be the cheapest.

Still, two days before the launch, scheduled for September 6, it is a bit surprising to see that only one partner will offer this MbA variant. Unless, of course, it’s a secret exclusive.
