Two injured – light aircraft overshoots the runway

A small plane with two occupants is said to have been approaching the Laakirchen-Gschwandt airfield in the municipality of Laakirchen (Upper Austria) when it overshot the runway on landing.

An aircraft accident occurred on Saturday afternoon in the municipality of Laakirchen. A 28-year-old German landed at 3:12 p.m. with a single-engine propeller aircraft and a 26-year-old passenger from Germany on the runway of the airfield. According to witness statements, however, he may have been too fast and too high or touched down too late on the runway.Facial injuriesThe pilot was unable to bring his plane to a standstill, went into a spin and fell 21 meters from the runway into an adjacent field. The machine overturned and came to rest on its roof. The two passengers were taken to the hospital in Gmunden with minor facial injuries. They were already freed from the plane when firefighters arrived.
