Two police officers injured by gunfire in a Paris police station

(Reuters) – Two police officers were seriously injured Thursday evening in the police station in the 13th arrondissement of Paris, Paris police prefect Laurent Nuñez announced on Friday, confirming information reported by several media.

The police intervened late Thursday evening in the 13th arrondissement of Paris to arrest a man who had violently attacked a woman, said Laurent Nuñez during a press conference.

“The police officers from the 13th arrondissement police station arrested this individual (…) then brought him back to the police station for treatment,” he declared. “At the time of this treatment, this individual stole a civil servant’s weapon which he used before being neutralized.”

Two police officers were seriously injured and were evacuated to Parisian hospitals where they were treated, said Laurent Nuñez.

The suspect was also seriously injured, said the Paris police chief.

The Paris public prosecutor has been seized of the case and a judicial investigation is underway, declared Laurent Nuñez.
