Two Romanians in custody – burglary series on construction sites in Leibnitz clarified

Two Romanians stole tools and construction machinery worth well over 100,000 euros during almost 40 burglaries in construction containers in the Leibnitz district. After the first perpetrator had already been tracked down in the summer of last year, investigators have now tracked down his accomplice. Both men are in custody.

The criminal police were able to clear up a series of burglaries on construction sites in the Leibnitz district. Two Romanians (28 and 29 years old) living in Styria are said to have broken into construction containers 38 times and stolen expensive tools, such as angle grinders and drills. According to the police, the damage was well over 100,000 euros. Perpetrator with a relevant criminal record As early as August 2022, the police investigated the 29-year-old burglar, who had a relevant criminal record. At that time, the man could be proven 20 burglaries. The public prosecutor’s office did not apply for arrest at the time and ordered further investigations. These are now crowned with success for Leibniz criminalists: They were able to track down a Romanian living in the Hartberg-Fürstenfeld district as an accomplice. He is said to have been involved in several burglaries and sold the stolen property. The duo made a profit of tens of thousands of euros. Motive: financial problems In mid-January, the handcuffs clicked for the burglars. Some of the stolen tools were recovered during a house search. The Romanians are now accused of a total of 38 burglaries, they are now in custody in the Graz-Jakomini prison and have fully confessed. They cited financial problems as a motive.
