Some consider the legal professions to be at the forefront of the risk of being replaced by RNs, but they may, in the end, have a little leeway. In the United States, a judge imposed a fine of approximately €4,600 on two lawyers and their firm for using case law fabricated from scratch by ChatGPT in a legal file. The OpenAI chatbot is said to have invented six cases that lawyers referred to in a case involving the Colombian airline Avianca.
According to Guardian, ChatGPT suggested several cases related to air accidents that lawyers were unable to find through their usual means. And for good reason, many of them do not seem real, are misidentified or involve airlines that do not exist.
“Advancements in technology are commonplace and there is nothing fundamentally wrong with using a reliable artificial intelligence tool as an aidsaid the judge. But the existing rules impose a monitoring role on lawyers to ensure the accuracy of their documents”. He believes that lawyers and their firms “abandoned their responsibilities when they submitted non-existent court notices with false citations and created by the artificial intelligence tool ChatGPT, then continued to respect the false notices after court orders called their existence into question”.
The law firm nevertheless made it clear that its clients had not cheated. “We made an honest mistake in not believing a technology could make business”he justified himself in a press release.
