Two victims paid – fraud with fake SMS from the finance

With the next scam, fraudsters are trying to get money out of the people of Salzburg: this time with fake text messages in the name of the tax office. Two young people from Salzburg (18, 29) fell for it.

Both victims received the same message, according to which there were outstanding receivables from the finance department and these had not been settled despite several reminders. The message also threatened that “as a precautionary measure, the bailiff would seize the household effects,” the police broadcast said. The alleged garnishment procedure could only be prevented by paying the full amount, the scammers said in the message. An 18-year-old and a 29-year-old transferred the requested amount of 379 euros. The police have repeatedly warned of such scams.
