Unioner insults Kruse’s girlfriend in a racist manner
Thousands celebrate the entry of the Unioners into the smallest of all European cups. But the exuberant mood clouded over for midfielder Kruse: A supporter of Berlin had insulted his girlfriend and threw beer at her.
The celebrations for entering the Conference League with Union Berlin have been tarnished for offensive star Max Kruse by a racist insult against his girlfriend. “There was an incident at the victory celebration,” he said on Instagram on a hotel balcony in Monaco. “My girlfriend was there too and was unfortunately racially insulted by one of our fans” and was “pelted with beer”. “Unfortunately, I couldn’t find the type,” Kruse reported.
With Kruse’s goal in stoppage time, the iron had won 2-1 against RB Leipzig and thus secured seventh place in the Bundesliga and entry into the European Cup. Then there was a party in front of the stadium with around 2000 fans who heated up the players from a stadium balcony.
“But, yes, I know that we as a Union are not racists. Still, it’s a shame that I didn’t find this guy,” said the 33-year-old. “Racism is out of place.” He has “never experienced such an incident with us and hopefully I will never see it again. Still, it makes me a little sad,” he said. Racism is “unfortunately too ubiquitous”.
Kruse flew to Monaco on Sunday in a private jet (“Otherwise I would not have made it”) to the Formula 1 race (“Weather 18, 19 degrees”). It “was my first Formula 1 race. It was great,” he said. Although he is “not a total Formula 1 fan”. But he has always had it on his bucket list to “take part in a Formula 1 race once in a lifetime”.
In his post he was once again pleased with the leadership of the Unioners (“The joy is of course huge”). At the same time, “there is a little sadness because Werder was relegated yesterday,” he said. “My heart is still a little bit attached to the club.”
