U3 operation disrupted – hour-long power failure in three districts of Vienna

Residents in three districts of Vienna sat in the dark for hours on Wednesday evening. The power outages affected around 1,900 households in Döbling, Hernals and Währing. There was an operational disruption on the U3 subway line.

According to Wiener Netze, it was a small-scale power failure that started shortly before 6 p.m. The exact causes are not known. Shortly before 8 p.m., however, all households were supplied with electricity again. Passengers on the U3 could initially only travel between Ottakring and Kardinal-Nagl-Platz due to a disruption in the Erdberg station. Later, the trains ran at different intervals. Not even two weeks ago, after inspection work in a substation, during which a “protection tripped”, there was a 20-minute power failure in six districts of Vienna. The districts of Margareten, Meidling, Mariahilf and Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus in Vienna were affected. Parts of Hietzing and the new building are said to have been without electricity in the morning hours of November 18th.
