(AOF) – Uber and Lyft are expected to rise slightly after Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell announced yesterday that she had obtained a historic agreement in her dispute initiated in May with the two companies, notably providing for a minimum wage of 32.50 dollars per hour for drivers. Uber and Lyft will also pay a total of $175 million to Massachusetts to end the state’s suit accusing them of violations of the wage and hour law.
“For years, these companies have underpaid their drivers and denied them basic benefits,” Campbell said in a statement. The agreement “provides their drivers, for the first time ever in Massachusetts, a guaranteed minimum wage, paid sick leave, workers’ compensation insurance and health benefits,” she said.
