Uber Eats: voice orders and robot deliveries on the menu

At its latest event, Uber announced new features for its food delivery service, including the ability to have a take-out order prepared.

As Dallas experiments with drone order deliveries with Alphabet’s Wings and Amazon struggles to get its own off the ground, other companies are riding the wave of alternative short-distance delivery methods like Globe with its utility bikes.

So it’s Uber’s turn to offer new features to its Uber Eats app. Among the announcements, we can note the taking of voice orders, automated delivery or even take-out sales to withdraw yourself.

Uber Eats will now gradually integrate Google Assistant into its ordering process. In summary, it will be possible for the user to order his meal directly after the famous “OK Google”. This feature will be available worldwide, but will require ordering in English first. Other languages ​​should follow in the year.

Once the dish has been ordered, it will be possible to have it delivered by a “robot”. For this, the company is experimenting with two different ways. In West Hollywood, it will be possible to make deliveries over short distances with a sidewalk robot from Serve Robotics, while on the Santa Monica side, autonomous vehicles will ensure the delivery.

No more queuing at the refreshment bar

Restricted to sporting events for now, a new feature allows Uber Eats users to skip queuing at halftime of a football match, for example, to order a meal (perfectly balanced, of course ).

The application geolocates the user and offers him to place an order at the nearest stand so that he only has to pick it up and savor it, thus avoiding long queues.

Available in several stadiums in the United States, this feature is also being tested in our country at Roazhon Park in Rennes. Uber says other sites will follow around the world.
