In the USA, Uber announced a close collaboration with Tesla to promote the adoption of electric vehicles by its drivers. The transport giant also offers subsidies to those who purchase an Elon Musk brand vehicle.

This new partnership is part of Uber’s commitments in North America, where the company is targeting zero emissions in urban areas by 2030. It builds on an already existing alliance between the two companies. The latter included offering discounts on Tesla vehicles to drivers using the Uber application. The firm also partnered with Hertz to push for the adoption of Tesla and Polestar cars by its drivers in the United States and Europe.

Up To $2,000 Off

Through this new program, Uber is offering exclusive purchase incentives for the Model 3 and Model Y, offering up to $2,000 off these vehicles for a reduced period. To qualify, drivers must purchase one of the affected models before March 31, then complete a minimum of 100 trips before May 15.

They will be able to use a reference code to buy the car directly from the manufacturer’s factory or from available stocks, while they last. At the same time, drivers will have the opportunity to test drive in Tesla stores.

We know from listening to Uber drivers that cost of ownership and access to convenient charging are the two biggest barriers preventing them from going electric, and we’re working with Tesla to solve both of these issues. “, comments Andrew Macdonald, senior vice president of mobility and business operations at Uber.

The lack of charging stations is one of the main obstacles to the adoption of electric vehicles generally. In this context, the partnership also includes an exchange of data between the two companies. In New York to start, Uber identifies areas where stations are needed for its drivers, then communicates them to Tesla.

Last year, Uber had 74,000 active electric vehicle drivers in the United States, Canada and Europe. The company claims more than 5 million drivers globally.
