Uber, Heetch… small rides in VTC may cost more


Discussions are underway between the various VTC platforms and the representatives of the drivers. At stake: better remuneration for drivers which will inevitably increase certain prices.

Will VTC races cost more? In any case, this is what an article in the Parisian. Uber, Freenow, Bolt or Heetch are concerned. The platforms have opened a dialogue with the representatives of the drivers in order to find a compromise desired by the government.

Failing to oblige platforms to consider drivers as employees, which would notably provide them with social security, the government wishes to improve the conditions of drivers “without calling into question their independent status that many drivers want to preserve“, specifies Joël Blondel, director of the Authority of the social relations of the platforms of employment. And the first issue therefore concerns their remuneration.

An increase in the minimum rate

The platforms could of course reduce their commission (15% for Heetch, 25% for Uber, etc.), but it is rather the users who risk having to put their hands in their pockets on certain journeys in order to revalue these remunerations. Everyone around the table agrees to raise the minimum price of a race.

Today, the price of a very short ride varies from 6 to 10 euros depending on the platform, which leaves just over 3 euros for drivers after commission and charges. It is rumored that this price could drop to 15 euros gross or 10 euros net.

Approach time billing

Another point mentioned for improving the remuneration of drivers is taking into account the “approach time“. Many drivers currently refuse journeys that are too far and too short, unprofitable or not very profitable. Some therefore plan to charge for this time spent driving to reach their customers.

Arnaud Desdonner, general secretary of the Association des VTC de France is annoyed: “our work deserves fair compensation, it’s up to the platforms to play the game“. But when they play, it’s always the others who lose…
