The French publisher has just communicated on the solution proposed after the closure of the service, scheduled for January 2023.

The end of Google Stadia will have been one of the most resounding flops of 2022, even if the announcement had been expected for a few months already.

A sudden shutdown and a massive failure for Google in the video game market

The streaming video game platform, launched with great fanfare by the search engine in November 2019, has never managed to find its audience, no doubt due to a confusing offer and a lack of exclusives and strong titles. It was last September that the scheduled shutdown of services was announced for January 18.

This is a blow for players who had purchased titles on the platform, even if Google had indicated in the process to refund almost all purchases made, such as controllers or games.

Ubisoft was one of Google’s most active partners in the Stadia adventure. The publisher has just published a blog post to explain the fallback solution imagined by its services in order to continue to enjoy its games.

Ubisoft offers free PC versions for aggrieved Stadia players

Stadia players will soon be able to enjoy the PC versions of the Ubisoft games they have purchased, free of charge. For titles offering cross-progression via Ubisoft Connect, such as far cry 6 and Assassin’s Creed Valhallathese will allow you to find your saves and continue the adventure, but most games do not have this feature and the progress will be permanently lost.

Those who subscribe to the Multi-Access Ubisoft+ plan will receive a coupon in their mailbox offering one month of free access to Ubisoft+ on PC or Multi-Access, as well as one month of priority access to GeForce Now in order to play in streaming to Ubisoft titles on any compatible device.

Finally, Ubisoft warns that virtual currency acquired in titles via Stadia cannot be refunded and invites players to spend it as quickly as possible before Google shuts down the servers. Items purchased in cross-progress games will be imported from the Stadia version to the PC version.
