Ubisoft Montreal takes over development of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake

Since Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake was announced in 2020, this is not the first time that news has reached us through the game’s twitter account. Whether it’s the postponement of the release, no news during the Ubisoft Forward or even admitting that the game has no planned release date at all, Ubisoft has accustomed us to its sporadic announcements regarding the Remake of the 2003 game.

This time again, the publisher notifies its change of strategy through a posted on his twitter. While the Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai studios were at the head of the co-development of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, Ubisoft changed its tune and entrusted the development to its Montreal studio. After more than a year of delay, it seems that the publisher does not consider the Indian teams up to the task. A blow when you know that nearly 170 developers were working on the project.

Hi Prince of Persia Fans,
Development of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake will now be led by Ubisoft Montreal, the very place where the epic Sands of Time trilogy was born.
This decision is an important step and the team, building on the work done by Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, will now take the necessary time to measure the scope of the game and give you the best experience with this remake of the classic. timeless, once it’s ready.
We want to thank you for your support and patience throughout development. Be sure that we will keep you informed of our progress in a future update.

Ubisoft press release

The remake therefore returns to the very place where the 2003 trilogy was born. It remains to be seen whether the Montreal teams will only refine the final details or whether, on the contrary, the handover means a partial or complete overhaul of the work already done. Only one certainty, no release date has yet been communicated and this new twist in the development of the game risks delaying it even more.
