Ubisoft Paris is calling for a strike, and not to fight against the pension reform

Part of France will be on strike or even in the streets tomorrow, Thursday January 19, 2023, to fight against the pension reform proposed by the government of Emmanuel Macron. And if the video game industry is concerned in the same way as everyone else by this social movement, a company also has other concerns in mind. The syndicate IT Solidarity to which is attached Ubisoft Paris has just launched a strike notice for the afternoon of Friday January 27, 2023in order to denounce the current working conditions and especially the measures that are being prepared.

WhileUbisoft just postponed Skull and Bones and cancel the development of 3 games to focus on larger projects and historical franchises, he also plans to reduce its workforce by phasing out vacant positions, a “natural attrition” mechanism according to President Yves Guillemot. A situation that worries the unions, who fear a downsizing, a discreet closing of studios, a wage squeeze and disguised layoffs that would harm departing employees and those still in place.

They also denounce the fact that the director asks the teams to surpass themselves and be even more efficient in these difficult times for the company, a dynamic that risks creating pressure, overtime and burnout for some, without any compensation. In this sense, they thus claim a direct 10% increase in all salaries (also a way of balancing them following the significant inflation of the last few months, which has not yet been done), more transparency on the evolution of future staff, a commitment against abusive managerial policiesand the implementation of the possibility of condensing your work week over 4 days.

Strong demands, in the face of which Ubisoft has not yet reacted.
