The question of a potential takeover ofUbisoft is on everyone’s lips at the start of 2022, as surprise acquisitions by major publishers are flying in all directions. In this climate of consolidation, Ubisoft is therefore necessarily very coveted, and if the publisher had declared to be open to proposals, the Guillemot family seems to be making sure to keep the monopoly by joining forces with investment companies to prevent a massive takeover. The financial statement of the publisher, unveiled yesterday, has precisely made it possible to take stock of the question.
Ubisoft is open to the idea, but not too much
In its report (relayed by Eurogamer), which indicated in particular its calendar of upcoming games for this fiscal year 2022/2023, Ubisoft reiterated its openness to potential offers, while warning that this is clearly not a priority according to Yves Guillemot:
” There’s been a lot of talk around consolidation in the industry, and at Ubisoft in particular. As we said last February, we have everything it takes to stay independent. We have the talent, the industrial and financial size, and a large portfolio of powerful licenses to create massive value in the years to come. This allows us to establish a strategic partnership with the biggest players in entertainment and technology. »
Guillemot then turns all the rumors of an acquisition to Ubisoft’s advantage, since he believes that these discussions “ highlight the true appeal and value » of the publisher’s teams.
If he says that all proposals will be studied by the management committee, a takeover does not seem to be on the agenda. For the moment ?
