Ubisoft relaunches on blockchain in partnership with the Immutable platform

For the moment, Immutable aggregates a small slew of games based on the blockchain, such as the TCG Cross the Ages, the basketball arcade Infinite Victory (we will skip the title) and soon the mech game Metalcore. James Ferguson, co-founder and CEO of Immutable, said he “couldn’t be more excited to explore the benefits of Web3 and digital ownership for gamers with Ubisoft” without specifying what the exact nature of their partnership would be.

Ubisoft had already dipped its toes back into crypto last May by collaborating with Integrated Reality Labs, a company offering “Smart Collectibles™” around the Assassin’s Creed license. Concretely, the buyer obtains an NFT Ezio – or other character offered – which he can customize with a selection of poses, colors and accessories through a dedicated application. Integrated Reality Labs will then 3D print your baby and deliver your unique figurine to you. Nothing that absolutely seems to require exploiting the blockchain, you might say; but it is with this kind of thinking that we remain simple buyers instead of managing crypto-laboratories for global publishers.

At the same time, Ubisoft contacted the PCGamer site to inform them that the Quartz platform was not completely dead internally. “We learned a lot from this experience, both from a technical and marketing point of view. Ubisoft Quartz survives as the underlying infrastructure and we will continue to work with our partners to provide the best possible experience for interested players. Only time will tell which will be the next franchise to serve as a test bed for these secure digital objects which are still far, very far from achieving unanimous approval.
