UFC: Ngannou-Fury, towards a boxing fight with “special” rules in early 2023?

Tyson Fury, WBC boxing champion, has announced that he will face UFC champion Francis Ngannou in 2023. With very special rules.

“I will face Francis Ngannou next year in Las Vegas, in February or March, recently indicated the Gypsy King to the Manchester Evening News but also to the Youtube channel iFL TV. We haven’t discussed it for this year because I have boxing fights to do. But next year, we can have crazy fights. It’s a massive clash, two heavyweight champions head to head, and I believe it can break pay-per-view records in the United States.”

A very enticing confrontation between the two heavyweights who dominate their discipline. Tyson Fury (31 wins, 1 draw) holds the WBC belt after winning a triple clash with Deontay Wilder (2 wins, 1 draw). For his part, Francis Ngannou is the boss of the heavyweights in the UFC. He also brilliantly defended his belt against the French Ciryl Gane last January and has a record of 17 wins for 3 losses.

A busy 2022 for Fury

Aged 35, the Cameroonian, currently injured, has always proclaimed his desire to turn to English boxing thereafter. While he has one year left on his contract with the prestigious MMA organization, he will have the opportunity to test himself against Tyson Fury in 2023 if all goes well.

Especially since the Briton, as he said, has a lot to do this year. He must first face Dillian Whyte (a priori April 23 at Wembley). Then, he will face the winner of the rematch between WBA-IBF-WBO champion Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua to become the first undisputed world champion with four belts in the history of the category.

He will then turn to this fight against Francis Ngannou with special rules. “If I beat Whyte and Usyk, because I think the latter is going to come out on top again against Joshua, I will be aiming for a return to Las Vegas in February or March for the fight against Ngannou. If we can agree on the terms,” he said.

“It would be tastier with something extra, not just a conventional boxing fight where he probably wouldn’t have a chance to beat me unless he knocked me out on a punch. So maybe in a cage, maybe with small gloves or maybe even without gloves, ”analyzed Tyson Fury.
