UFOs on Canal +: no season 3 for the crazy science fiction series

End clap for GEPAN. Despite the enthusiasm of the critics, the encrypted channel has decided not to renew the paranormal investigations of Didier Mathure (Melvil Poupaud) and his team, for lack of having been able to find its audience.

Quirky, caustic and irresistibly vintage, the OVNI(s) series, created by Clémence Dargent and Martin Douaire, who follows the adventures of a team of scientists in search of evidence of extraterrestrial life in France at the end of the 1970s, will unfortunately not be entitled to a conclusion worthy of the name.

According to information from the site TeleramaCanal+ has decided not to renew the program for a third season, despite the enthusiasm of the press since its launch. “Apparently, the qualitative studies conducted by Canal+ are excellent, but the audiences are insufficient“says Antony Cordier.

For the director of the two seasons of the series, the disappointment is great. “Teveryone wanted to continue. The actors were on point. We were doing something different, the chemistry within the teams was rare. I will miss that joy.”

Carried by Melvil Poupaud, Michel Vuillermoz, Géraldine Pailhas, Daphné Patakia and Quentin Dolmaire, the science fiction comedy had nevertheless brought a breath of fresh air to the line-up of fictions of the encrypted channel, thanks to its light tone, its subject iconoclast and his gallery of tasty performers. Alas, UFO(s) will not have succeeded in finding its public.

“We are in a moment of fierce competition between broadcasters. It’s the TV game” confides Martin Douaire, scriptwriter graduated from the Ecole de la Fémis like his co-author Clémence Dargent. “I would have liked to continue, but I’m not angry. I prefer to thank Canal for trusting us and for trying to make this series exist.”

Disappointed viewers will therefore remain unsatisfied at the end of season 2, because the series will not be entitled to a real conclusion. Martin Douaire is however optimistic: “(…) jI tell myself that an epilogue, five years later, in another format, will perhaps see the light of day… You never know what life is made of”.

This cancellation occurs while the department of fiction of Canal + is in full restructuring after the announcement of the departure of its director, Fabrice de la Patellière, at the beginning of the year. Contacted by Télérama, the channel did not wish to comment on this decision.
