Boris Johnson thinks he has found an effective remedy to deal with the rising cost of living which has lowered consumption and risks causing a recession across the Channel. “We need to reduce the cost of government to reduce the cost of living, the Conservative prime minister told the newspaper The Daily Mail.
To reduce public spending, the chief executive wants to freeze the recruitment of civil servants. During a government seminar, he also asked his main ministers to think about how they can reduce the number of posts in their respective administrations and to submit ideas to him within a month. The objective is to cut 90,000 jobs, or about 20% of the workforce.
