While the drought affects the whole of Europe, in the United Kingdom, the situation is such that the authorities have decided to put in place water restrictions in London from this Wednesday. If the inhabitants understand the situation, they also point the finger at the water leaks affecting the city. Europe 1 met them.

A very heavy summer throughout Europe, with very little rain. In the United Kingdom, we had not experienced such a drought for ten years. The situation is such that London, the British capital, will undergo water restrictions from this Wednesday. With shoulder-length blond hair and a black sweater with the logo of his store, Glen Devis works normally, despite the implementation of water restrictions. For this manager of a small garden center in north London, the temporary ban on using a garden hose is a good idea.

“A lot of waste”

“It may cause awareness. I think people actually don’t realize how precious water is and there is a lot of waste,” he said. Despite the prohibitions, it is still possible to use a watering can to take care of your garden. Restrictions respected by most citizens, although many point to the many water leaks in the pipes of the city.

David, who hesitates between two bouquets of flowers, blames in particular the lack of maintenance of the company Thames Water, which manages the London network. “We read articles everywhere on the waste of water from these companies because of their lack of investment for years. So on the one hand, we are blamed, but on the other it mobilizes the population and I I’m all for doing my part,” he explains.

The aim of these restrictions is to save water when the levels of rivers and reservoirs are exceptionally low. In total, they will affect nearly 30 million people across the country.
