KYIV (Reuters) – Warning sirens sounded early Friday morning in Kyiv and residents were called to take shelter in the aftermath of massive attacks by the Russian army against the Ukrainian capital.

Kyiv Municipality issued an alert via Telegram messaging shortly after 2 a.m., calling on residents of the capital to take shelter in shelters.

Kyiv region governor Oleskiy Kouleba said on Telegram that a “drone attack” was underway.

A witness 20 kilometers south of Kyiv heard several explosions and the sound of gunfire from air defense systems.
