The company of drone Chinese DJI has temporarily ceased its activities and the sale of its products in Russia and Ukraine after being slapped on Twitter by Mykhailo Fedorov, Ukrainian Minister of Digital Transformation.
The brand is accused of letting the Russian army use its drones for purely military purposes, resulting in the death of dozens of people.

Ukrainian Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov published an open letter on Twitter in mid-March to accuse Russia of using drones from the Chinese brand DJI to help navigate their missiles in the war. According to the Minister, the strikes of these devices have resulted in the death of a hundred children in the territory since the beginning of the conflict.
On his side, MediaMarkt, a German chain of electronics stores, has removed DJI drones from its shelves. She did so after receiving information that indicated that Russia is using products and data from the drone maker for its military activities in Ukraine.
The Chinese brand denied the allegations of MediaMarkt, but ceased operations nonetheless. This is the first Chinese brand to reach this extreme. However, she moderates by saying in a press release that it is more about values than carrying out a real political operation by taking any side in this war: “ DJI abhors any use of its drones for harm. »
Difficult to implement regulation
DJI insists the company does not sell its products for military use. It also reminds us of the good they have been able to bring to the world since its creation: helping to preserve biodiversity, observing animals in danger, and even using them to save lives.
It should be remembered that, even if the stated purpose of drones is to innovate and develop, among other missions, means of defense and study of the environment, these are sometimes used in the world for a completely different purpose. For example, the New Generation Jalisco Cartel in Mexico uses commercial drones to drop explosives on local law enforcement and militias.
Regulating their use in the world is a challenge at the limit of the impossible, and stopping the sales of such products in a territory is already a start.
