The television tower in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second city, was destroyed on Monday after a Russian strike which caused no casualties, regional authorities said, announcing the interruption of the signal. This 240 meter high structure collapsed halfway up, noted an AFP journalist. It had already been damaged by an attack in March 2022, at the start of the Russian invasion.

A city targeted by Moscow forces

“The occupiers attacked a television infrastructure in Kharkiv. During the alert, the employees hid. There were no victims,” said Oleg Synegoubov, the regional governor. He reported “interruptions in the signal for digital television.” The city of Kharkiv, home to more than 1.4 million people before the war and located near the border with Russia, has been increasingly targeted by Moscow’s forces in recent weeks.

Its energy infrastructure was notably targeted, causing major power outages at the end of March. President Volodymyr Zelensky visited freshly dug defensive lines in this region at the beginning of April, even though the front is about forty kilometers from Kharkiv.
