Ukraine: Mariupol threatened by a cholera epidemic

June 10 (Reuters) – The southern Ukrainian city of Mariupol is at risk of a major cholera outbreak, with medical services likely already on the brink of collapse, Britain’s Ministry of Defense said on Friday. .

There would also be a severe shortage of medicine in Kherson, the ministry said in a Twitter post, adding that Russia would struggle to provide basic public medical care to the people of the territories it occupies.

Last month, Dorit Nitzan, the World Health Organization (WHO) representative in Ukraine, said Mariupol, now controlled by Russian forces, was among the areas at risk of cholera infection. (Reporting Baranjot Kaur in Bangalore; French version Dina Kartit, editing by Kate Entringer)
