Vladimir Putin decided on Monday to recognize the independence of pro-Russian separatists in Ukraine. This decision made the presidential candidates react. All condemn a threat to the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
The recognition, Tuesday evening, of the independence of the regions of Donetsk and Lugansk by Vladimir Putin, made the French presidential candidates react. The National Front candidate, Marine Le Pen, judges in a press release that Vladimir Putin’s decision is an eminently regrettable act which does not contribute to the necessary de-escalation of tensions.
“Hold a balanced position in an explosive situation”
Putin’s recognition of separatist entities undermines Ukraine’s territorial integrity and democracy. No complacency! I call for a firm and united French and European response.

In a long statement, Jean-Luc Mélenchon of France Insoumise recognizes Russian responsibility, but he insists on the risk, according to him, of an annexation of Ukraine in NATO, which will not delay any longer. For his part, Eric Zemmour, candidate for the Reconquête! party, expressed the following position during an exchange with Internet users on Twitter: “I have been saying it from the start: we must hold a balanced position in this explosive situation. We must demand to respect the borders of Ukraine, but in exchange, the NATO countries, France, Germany, the United States undertake that Ukraine will never be a member of NATO. believe this is the only way to allay Russia’s legitimate fears of NATO troops and missiles on its doorstep.”
