Asked about the war in Ukraine and its consequences in diplomatic relations, MEP LR Nadine Morano estimated in “Europe Matin” on Monday that Russia had “a vocation to return” in a concert of nations, despite its military operation. “Russia is a great country,” she admitted, pointing out, however, a “disaster” in Ukraine.

“Russia has a vocation to return” in a concert of nations. As the Russian military begins its 26th day of invading Ukraine, Republican MEP Nadine Morano said Vladimir Putin’s country should still have a place in diplomatic relations. “It’s a big country,” she said, noting however the “disaster” unfolding in Ukraine. This situation has pushed nearly ten million Ukrainians to flee their country, and Nadine Morano highlights their sacrifices and the desire to learn French among those who have chosen to come to France.

A parliamentary group “for a new dialogue with Putin”

MEP LR distinguishes between “real and false refugees”, pointing to those who come for “economic needs” by castigating a “misuse of the right of asylum”. Nadine Morano also said that she had created, “several years ago, a group of parliamentarians [au Parlement européen] which was called ‘For a new dialogue with Russia’. I had asked Saint Petersburg, Vladimir Putin, to come and speak before the European Parliament. I’m sorry it wasn’t done.”

If Nadine Morano “condemns what happened in Ukraine”, she argues that the situation is in reality “much more complicated than that. There has been a war in the Donbass for years. Ukraine is a independent country for 31 years, it’s short (…). The war in the Donbass, we do not show the images morning, noon and evening.” The victims of this war are “both Russians, Ukrainians and Russian speakers”, indicates the MEP. “If there had been steps taken effectively, rather than hearing that Ukraine is destined to join NATO,” assures Nadine Morano.

Macron’s international record ‘as bad’ as his domestic policy

The former Minister Delegate to the Ministry of Labour, under the mandate of Nicolas Sarkozy, also regrets “that Emmanuel Macron, during his mandate, did not follow the Minsk agreements sufficiently. We find ourselves in this situation” . She draws up a very critical international assessment of the outgoing president: “Whether in Mali, in Lebanon. He showed the muscles in Lebanon (…) and we did not bring anything. is the same. We were kicked out when we have 58 soldiers there.” And Nadine Morano to tackle: “Emmanuel Macron’s international record is as bad as the record on his national policy.”
