Ukraine-Russian army destroys ammunition depot on a Ukrainian base-Interfax

April 9 (Reuters) – Russian forces have destroyed an ammunition depot at Myrhorod air base in central Ukraine, the Interfax news agency reported on Saturday, citing the Russian Defense Minister.

A MiG-29 fighter jet and an Mi-8 helicopter of the Ukrainian air force were also destroyed during the attack on the base located in the Poltava region, the spokesman of the Russian ministry said of Defense, Igor Konashenkov.

Igor Konashenkov added that another ammunition depot was also destroyed near the town of Novomoskovsk in the Dnipro region in central-eastern Ukraine.

Russia sent tens of thousands of troops to Ukraine on February 24 in what it calls a “special military operation” to demilitarize and “denazify” its neighbor.

Ukrainian authorities on Saturday called on civilians in the Luhansk region of eastern Ukraine to flee Russian shelling after more than 50 civilians were killed in the shelling of Kramatorsk train station.

Russia denies committing war crimes and targeting civilians in Ukraine. (Reuters report, French version Matthieu Protard)
