Ukraine-Russian troops enter the city of Kherson

LVIV, March 2 (Reuters) – The mayor of Kherson said on Wednesday that Russian troops were in the Ukrainian city and had managed to enter the building housing the city council.

Igor Kolykhaev made the announcement as the Ukrainian government earlier denied reports that the city of Kherson had fallen into Russian hands, marking Moscow’s first major victory since its invasion began last week.

He urged Russian soldiers not to open fire on civilians, saying in a statement that Ukrainian forces were not present in the town. (Report Natalia Zinets; French version Jean Terzian)
