Ukraine: the Sumy region, bordering Russia, is “liberated” from Russian forces, according to the governor


The head of the regional administration Dmytro Jivitsky declared on Friday that this region is no longer occupied by the Russians, specifying however that a demining operation remains necessary.

The Sumy region, bordering Russia in north-eastern Ukraine, has been totally “releasedof the Russian forces, announced Friday April 8 the head of the regional administration Dmytro Jivitsky.

With this departure of Russian troops from the Sumy region, Moscow has now completely evacuated northern Ukraine. Sumy, a city of 250,000 inhabitants and capital of the eponymous region, was besieged in the early days of the war by Russian troops who failed to fully control it, then were driven back.

Access to the city remained very complicated and thousands of foreign students, particularly from several countries in East or Southern Africa, were stuck there for several weeks.
