Ukraine uses facial recognition to reveal to Russians the extent of their losses

Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov said his troops were using artificial intelligence to search social media for profiles of Russian soldiers.

Ukraine has decided to equip itself with “an automatic call system to Russia” using facial recognition to reveal to the Russians the extent of their military losses, Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov announced on Wednesday. “Today, we are using artificial intelligence to search social networks for profiles of Russian soldiers based on (images) of their bodies, in order to report their death to friends and relatives,” explained Mr. Fedorov on Facebook.

“We are setting up a system of automatic calls to Russia to tell the truth about the Russian assassins”, he added, before letting go: “We started doing things that we could not even imagine a month ago”. The objective, explained the Deputy Prime Minister, is to “dispel the myth of a + special operation + in which + no conscript takes part + and in which + nobody dies +”.

“Special Military Operation”

Russia has officially dubbed the February 24 invasion a “special military operation”. Using the word “war” in this country to describe this intervention is liable to prosecution.

Moscow on March 9 for the first time acknowledged the presence of conscripts in Ukraine and admitted that a number of them had been taken prisoner, after claiming that only professional soldiers were fighting there. In this regard, President Vladimir Putin had assured, before this date, that he would not send conscripts or reservists to Ukraine, saying that only “professionals” had the mission of fulfilling the “set objectives”.

From the first days of the attack on Ukraine, media and NGOs had reported that young Russians just old enough to do their military service were taking part in military operations. In addition, calls from mothers without news of their sons sent to Ukraine have multiplied on social networks.
