+++ 01:11 New oil sanctions against Russia in force +++

From today, crude oil from Russia may only be imported into the European Union in exceptional cases. The import restriction is based on a sanctions regulation passed by the 27 member states in June because of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine. It came into force shortly after the decision, but provided for transitional periods for the oil embargo. Also effective today is a regulation intended to force Russia to sell oil to buyers in other countries for a maximum of USD 60 per barrel in the future. The price of around EUR 57 per 159 liters will then be up to EUR 9 below the most recent market price for Russian Urals crude oil.

+++ 23:46 Selenskyj: “Have to do everything to survive this winter” +++
With a view to the cold season, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenkyj is appealing to the population for stamina and resilience. “The enemy very much hopes to use winter against us: to make the winter cold and hardship part of their terror,” he says in his daily video message. “We must do everything to survive this winter, no matter how tough it is.” To endure this winter means to endure everything. Russia does have an advantage with missiles and artillery. “But we have something that the occupier doesn’t have and won’t have. We’re protecting our home, and that gives us the greatest possible motivation,” emphasizes Zelenskyj.

+++ 22:08 Macron’s advance causes surprise at SPD +++
French President Emmanuel Macron’s thoughts on a possible future security architecture in Europe are met with rejection by the SPD. The SPD foreign politician Nils Schmid tells the newspaper “Welt” that Macron’s words are surprising. “As long as Russia pursues an imperialist foreign policy, a pan-European peace order that includes Russia is not possible.” Macron said, among other things, that during his recent visit to the United States he spoke to President Joe Biden about the future security order in Europe. “That means one of the essential points – because President (Vladimir) Putin always said it – is the fear that NATO will come to his door, is the deployment of weapons that can threaten Russia. This issue becomes part of the issues be for peace. And that’s why we have to prepare it too.”

+++ 21:37 RT editor-in-chief: Because of sanctuaries no nuclear attack on Kyiv +++
The editor-in-chief of the Russian state broadcaster RT, Margarita Simonyan, claims that Russia would never attack the Ukrainian capital with nuclear weapons, partly because there are holy sites there. As an example, she cites the Kiev Pechersk Lavra. This is reported by the US portal “The Daily Beast”, which evaluates Russian propaganda on television. But London, Berlin and Washington don’t have holy sites, she adds. On Twitter, users post pictures of churches that were damaged or destroyed by the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine in the comments below the video clip. Simonyan’s claim that the Russian army basically captured Kyiv in the first week of the war, but then withdrew, also caused excitement and some ridicule. The Ukrainian army put up fierce resistance, and the Russian army finally withdrew from the Kyiv area.
