The Ukrainian President announces a new round of institutional “cleansing”. “Whoever holds a position, a military commissar, a member of parliament or an official, everyone can only work for the interests of the state,” says Zelenskyj in his evening speech. Work will continue next week. Zelenskyj does not give details of who the target could be. Only recently, however, did he express his outrage at the corruption uncovered during an audit of Ukraine’s recruitment centers. Kiev is stepping up action against corruption in order to advance negotiations on accession to the EU and NATO.

According to the Ukrainian military, Russia has launched several groups of attack drones. Late on Saturday evening, the Luftwaffe reported on Telegram that the drones were moving north-east over Mykolaiv. So far there have been no reports of possible casualties or damage.

“Every millimeter of progress towards a just and fair peace brings a bit of hope for the people in Ukraine,” said Federal Foreign Minister Baerbock at the conference in Jeddah in Saudi Arabia on the war. The Ukrainian President Selenskyj has “showed a very decisive path for this with his peace formula,” she says of the “Bild am Sonntag”. Among other things, Zelenskyy’s plan includes the complete withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukrainian territory. Baerbock says the signal from Jeddah is that the war is also affecting people in Africa, Asia and South America. The war has implications beyond Europe, from the future of the international order and energy security issues to rising grain prices and the world food supply so ruthlessly degraded by Russia. The view of the war is “different from Pretoria, Brasilia or Beijing than from Europe”.

Ukrainian President Zelenskyy says a Russian bomb hit a blood transfusion center in the city of Kupiansk in eastern Kharkiv Oblast in the evening. “There are dead and injured,” he writes on his Telegram channel.
