The Ukrainian partisan group ATESH says one of its agents successfully infiltrated a Russian air base and hinted that he had carried out acts of sabotage. In a Telegram post, the group says it has scouted the airfield in Voronezh, which is located about 220 kilometers northeast of the border with Kharkiv Oblast and is home to the Russian 47th Guards Bomber Aviation Regiment. The images and videos accompanying the post show several aircraft, including a helicopter and, according to ATESH, SU-34 fighter-bombers, an aircraft that Russia often uses to fire missiles at Ukrainian cities. “Surprises are now waiting for the Russians in some of them,” the post says. The group also claims to have passed on information about the base to Ukrainian authorities, adding: “Soon we will see the result of our work.”

Barbados and the Marshall Islands have signed the final declaration of the Ukrainian peace summit in Switzerland. President Volodymyr Zelensky announced this on X. “We see growing global support for the (Ukrainian) peace formula, that is, support for the UN Charter, which we want to restore to full force,” wrote Zelensky. Switzerland hosted the summit on June 15 and 16, which was attended by over 90 countries and organizations. At the end of the peace conference, 80 of the 93 participating countries had agreed on a final declaration. Russia was not invited and China decided not to participate despite being invited.

Following the Russian bombing of the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Selenskyj has called for rapid assistance from the West in air defence. Ukraine has already received more capabilities to destroy Russian bases for launching missiles near the border as well as concentrations of occupying troops, said Selenskyj in his evening video message (see entry 20:25) Selenskyj speaks of three dead and dozens injured as a result of Russian terror. The authorities put the number of injured at 56 in the evening.

Russia is said to have fired cruise missiles from warships in the Sea of Azov. This is what Dmytro Pletenchuk, spokesman for the Ukrainian Navy, says, as reported by “The Kyiv Independent”. According to Pletenchuk, four of the 16 missiles are Kalibr cruise missiles. The missiles are said to have been fired from the Sea of Azov because their stationing in the Black Sea was no longer safe enough. According to Pletenchuk, the Russians use the Sea of Azov as a strategic base “because they consider it a safer body of water than the Black Sea.” Pletenchuk warns the Russian armed forces not to feel too safe in the Sea of Azov. According to the Ukrainian military, around 30 percent of the Russian Black Sea fleet will have been destroyed by December 2023.
