Ukraine will be the priority of the next German Defense Minister


BERLIN, Jan 17 (Reuters) – The first item on the agenda of Germany’s next defense minister will be whether to deliver battle tanks to Ukraine, Germany’s defense minister said on Tuesday. Economy Robert Habeck on Deutschlandfunk radio, as pressure on Berlin mounts.

“When the person, when the Minister of Defense is announced, it is the first question that will be decided concretely,” he said on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht resigned on Monday amid growing pressure on her government to allow allies to send heavy tanks to Ukraine.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on Monday he would move quickly to replace Christine Lambrecht.
