Ukraine: Zelensky hails the “resilience” of soldiers in the east of the country

Jan 9 (Reuters) – Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky said on Monday that the resilience of Ukrainian soldiers fending off waves of Russian attacks in Soledar, in the eastern Donbass region, had bought time and strength.

In a daily video address, the leader did not explain what he meant by “buying time and strength”, as representatives in Kyiv warned that Russia was planning another major offensive in the coming months.

According to reports from the Ukrainian army, the soldiers are facing heavy attacks from Russian troops redeployed to Soledar after failing to take the nearby large town of Bakhmout. (Report Ron Popeski and Elaine Monaghan; French version Jean Terzian)
