The Crimean Bridge is a “target” that must be “neutralized”, according to Volodymyr Zelensky
Invited to participate by videoconference in the Aspen Security Forum (Colorado), Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Friday that Ukraine’s goal was to “recover all of Crimea”the peninsula annexed by Russia in 2014, as it is a “sovereign territory, an inalienable part of our nation”.
The Crimean bridge, which provides access to the peninsula from Russian territory, was hit in the night from Sunday to Monday by an attack which blocked traffic and left two dead, tourists being among the crowd of Russians who came, like every summer, from all over the country to vacation in Crimea.
A source within the Ukrainian security services told Agence France-Presse that Ukrainian special services and naval forces were behind the attack on the bridge, carried out using “naval drones”. In October 2022, Moscow accused kyiv of attacking the bridge using a truck that exploded on the road section. Ukraine only indirectly admitted the attack months later.
On Friday, Volodymyr Zelensky said the bridge was not “not just a logistics route”. “This is the route used to supply the war, with ammunition, daily”he added.
“This is an enemy installation built (…) outside of international law. So that’s our goal. And any target that brings war, not peace, must be neutralized.”advanced the Ukrainian president.
